First Command Book Club

The First Command Book Club does not require that you be a full-time student or academic. Anyone who has an interest in reading can benefit from the lessons and discussions. Those who commit to reading and participating in all the books for the year will receive special recognition from President Hamza Yusuf.

President Hamza Yusuf has chosen the books for the year. Members will have weekly reading assignments for each month. President Yusuf will offer prerecorded insights on each reading session. At least one live session per month will feature President Yusuf and/or his teaching assistants. In the book club dashboard, members can ask questions and exchange thoughts and insights. Supplemental readings may be included to enhance the learning experience.

Each course spans a month, during which the assigned readings will be read and discussed.

As a 12000 Strong member, you will be sent instructions for logging in to the book club dashboard. There may be a delay between signing up for 12000 Strong and being able to access the platform, so if you are planning to participate in a live event, you should sign up at least 24 hours in advance.

Yes, all live sessions are posted in the book club dashboard. Please allow for 1-3 business days after the live session for the recording to be posted.

At the sign-in page, select “Forgot Password” to initiate a reset. If you wish to change it while logged in, you can do so from the “Password” section of the “My Account” page.

We will do our best to have the books available at the Zaytuna College Bookstore. You are free to purchase from any bookstore (online or local) you choose. We will show the book cover(s) for the edition(s) preferred by President Hamza Yusuf.
